Global Trout and Char Network

A Call to Action: Endeavor to make native trout and char flourish around the globe

Global conservation action requires 3 key actions:

Objective 1: Establish a global network of scientists and conservationists to share knowledge on the protection and restoration of native trout and their habitats.

Objective 2: Conduct and update IUCN status assessments for all trout species across the globe.

Objective 3: Establish place-based conservation protections for native trout: propose adding “Outstanding Coldwater Rivers” to the World Heritage List

Education is the lifeline to conservation

We all know kids are the future of conservation, and conservation requires an informed future.  Here Dan Dauwalter explains trout anatomy as it relates to the habitat trout need at Owyhee Field Days, southeast Oregon, USA.

Conservation in Action

This site is a place not only to network, but to also share the hard work that is being done to protect and restore native trout and char across the globe.   The photo on the right shows a Lahontan cutthroat trout Oncorhynchus clarkii henshawi  during work trying to manage hybridization with non-native rainbow trout.  Photo credit (left): Jason Barnes.
